🦆 Sitting Duck: Why should I be responsible for my security, there’s the police for that!

👦 Me: There is 1 cop for every 600+ civilians. The average response time is 15 minutes+, which is also when you CAN dial 100. Most crimes do not last more than 3-4 minutes.

🦆: I get it – but I am an MBA grad, working in a corporate, do you think I would ever be in a situation where I would need security?

👦: Why? Do you not use the road/public transport to travel to and fro from work? Do you not know anybody can be a victim of road rage? Do you not realize that tomorrow you might have to fire people and that might cause trouble for you? A case in point is Bisleri, whose top executives were beaten up by masked men (Google it). And these are just SOME examples.

🦆: I think I understand. But such cases are few and sporadic. The probability of me being a victim is going to be minuscule!

👦: Have you ever been in a plane crash? What is the probability of survival if you were to be in one? Isn’t that probability you NEED to care about? And knowing that your LIFE could be at stake, how much should the probability of you being a victim be for you to start caring? 1%? 10%? 100%?

🦆: Okay, even if the probability is 10% that still means there’s only a 1 in 10 chance that I will be chosen as a target by a criminal or a radical!

👦: Post-facto analysis of a probabilistic event makes it seem as if the event occurs at random. But ask the criminal or the radical – whether they choose their targets at random. NO, they do not. Criminals and radicals study their potential victims before attacking – they pick on the most unsuspecting, most vulnerable, most underprepared targets to attack.

🦆: Okay I get it – so what should I do?

👦: Don’t be a sitting duck. Refuse to be a victim. Come out of denial. Be aware of your surroundings. Train to become security conscious and know that this security consciousness is going to be the difference between LIFE and DEATH. Know that personal security will always be personal responsibility!
